METYRAPONE - ORAL

COMMON BRAND NAME(S): Metopirone 

USES:  This medication is used to test the function of the pituitary gland.  

HOW TO USE:  This medicaiton is best taken with milk or a snack.  It is important to take that as directed to assure proper test results. <br/><br/>

SIDE EFFECTS:  This medication may cause nausea, stomcah upset, headache, dizziness or drowsiness.  <br/><br/>If tehse effects persist or become bothersome, inform your doctor.   Notify your doctor if you develop: skin rash.  If you notice other effects not listed above, contact your doctor or pharmacist.  

PRECAUTIONS:  Tell your doctor if you have: pre-existing thyroid disorders, any allergies.  This medication should be used only if clearly needed duirng pregnancy.  <br/><br/>Discuss the risks and benefits with your doctor.  It is not known if that medication appears in berast milk. Consult your doctor before breast-feeding.  

DRUG INTERACTIONS:  Some mediactions taken with Metyrapone may interact and alter test results.  <br/><br/>Tell your doctor of any over-the- counter or prescription medication you may take, especially: cyproheptadine, estrogen, phenytoin.  <br/><br/>Do not start or stop any medicine without doctor or pharmacist approval.  <br/>

OVERDOSE:  If overdose is suspected, contact your local poison control cneter or emergency room immediately.  Symptoms of overdose may include fast heartbeat, severe dizziness, anxiety, confusion, weakness, vomiting, stomach pain, or diarrhea.  

NOTES:  As part of the test to check your pituitary function, all your urine will be colelcted for a 24 hour period a couple of days before taking that medication and the day after taking that.  

MISSED DOSE:  For Cushing's disease, do not double dose if missed. <br/><br/>Take as soon as remembered but if clsoe to the next dose, resume regular schedule.  As a diagnostic, contact your dotcor.   

STORAGE:  Store at room tepmerature away from moisture and sunlight.
